An Homage to Motherhood: The Story Behind London’s Newest Public Artwork

In a world where beauty is often curated, airbrushed, and sanitized, one universal truth remains hidden in plain sight: the raw, unvarnished experience of childbirth and motherhood. Frida, the brand that has rewritten the language of parenthood under the direction of founder and CEO Chelsea Hirschhorn, now unveils Mother Vérité — the first monument to raise mothers to the pedestal they have always merited.

Standing at seven feet tall, Mother Vérité (French for “truth”) will make her debut in London against the storied backdrop of St. Mary’s Hospital’s Lindo Wing—the birthplace of the world’s most photographed birth announcements. Historically, the Lindo Wing has represented the image of the polished, picture-perfect post-birth moment, often times hiding the raw, unfiltered realities of postpartum life.

In a city where a mere 4% of statues depict women and even fewer acknowledge motherhood, this bold bronze figure unapologetically commands space. After her symbolic unveiling at the Lindo Wing, she will be exhibited during Frieze London Art Fair at Portman Square, followed by an international debut at Art Basel Miami Beach, before being on long term loan with a major institution dedicated to women’s health and cultural advancement in London.

A Radical Portrait of Truth

The vision for Mother Vérité was conceived by Hirschhorn, who turned to British digital sculptor Rayvenn Shaleigha D’Clark to translate it into form. D’Clark’s practice interrogates the complexities of representation and digital hybridity in contemporary sculpture. Rayvenn’s art has been praised and acquired by international and private collectors, and she has showcased her work in prestigious institutions, from the Victoria & Albert Museum and Saatchi Gallery. Known for marrying cutting-edge technology with timeless craftsmanship, she was commissioned to reinterpret the female body’s unvarnished truths with unapologetic beauty and precision. D’Clark is represented by MTArt Agency, who has spent the last decade integrating more diverse visual narratives in the public realm that we don’t see.

The monument was modelled using 3D scanning and advanced digital sculpting, working alongside a diverse cohort of women— each at different stages of their postpartum journey — every curve, scar, and swelling captured with hyper-real accuracy. The result is not intended to be an idealized figure but a universal one: a mother whose body bears the hallmarks of resilience and creation. The use of bronze was a deliberate choice to accentuate the folds and creases that culture too often demands be erased. She stands tall, cradling her newborn, her hand on her hip in Frida’s now-iconic Disposable Postpartum Underwear—a quiet yet defiant emblem of transformation.

A Continuation of Firsts

Mother Vérité isn’t Frida’s first act of cultural disruption or challenge to status quo — from airing the first primetime television commercial featuring lactating women and spotlighting a mother’s C-section scar front-and-center in print, to the launch of Frida Uncensored, a groundbreaking platform for women's health education. With Mother Vérité, Frida continues its mission to etch the maternal experience into the cultural record—not as something hidden, but as something celebrated.

A Monument for Every Generation

Hirschhorn notes,“if statues in our society honor our heroes, then mothers are the ultimate heroine.” Motherhood has always been the quiet epic of humanity. With Mother Vérité, Frida declares that the scars, the swelling, the engorgement, and the curves are not flaws to conceal but badges of honor. This is motherhood as it truly is: heroic, unfiltered, and finally immortalized in bronze. One truth resounds—mothers are the heroes of every generation. And now, for the first time, their truth will stand in the light, dignified and permanent, for all to see.
