Blaize Caprice: A Journey Through Sustainable Luxury & Craftsmanship

In the world of fashion, heritage often shapes innovation, and for Blaize Caprice

this is undeniably true. As the daughter of a tailor and menswear designer, she embodies a legacy of craftsmanship that informs her vision for sustainable luxury. With her eponymous label, Blaize Caprice, she elegantly merges traditional bespoke techniques with a modern aesthetic, creating garments that are as timeless as they are contemporary.

In an exclusive interview, Blaize she shares insights into her creative journey, the philosophy driving her brand, and the intricate balance of luxury and sustainability that defines her work. Join us as we delve into the mind of a designer whose pieces are as much about the story behind them as they are about the style they convey.

1. As the daughter of a tailor and a bespoke menswear designer, how has your upbringing shaped your career path and design aesthetic?

Growing up in my father's tailor shop, I was immersed in the world of fashion from an early age. Attending fittings and design meetings ignited my passion for design, leading me to various fashion roles in New York throughout my twenties. Ultimately, I returned to the family business, where I honed my skills for three years before launching my own brand. My father's meticulous attention to detail and commitment to quality has profoundly influenced my approach to design, inspiring me to create timeless wardrobe staples that stand the test of time.

2. Your brand champions sustainability. How do you harmonize luxury with sustainable practices in your designs, and why is this important to you?

I firmly believe that luxury and sustainability coexist beautifully. The fast fashion model, where garments are quickly produced only to be discarded, is wasteful. My focus is on creating timeless pieces crafted from high-quality fabrics that outlast fleeting trends. I design items meant to be cherished and worn repeatedly, ensuring they remain relevant and meaningful additions to any wardrobe. The durability of well-made garments not only reduces waste but also fosters a deeper appreciation for fashion.

3. You place a strong emphasis on craftsmanship. Can you elaborate on what this means to you and how it is reflected in your designs?

In today's fast-paced fashion landscape, the artistry behind garment-making can easily be overlooked. Each of my vendors is handpicked for their exceptional craftsmanship. For instance, the artisan who constructs my 100% cashmere coats employs traditional hand-sewing techniques to achieve exquisite double-faced seams. This dedication to craftsmanship ensures that every piece is not just a product but a work of art, embodying the labor of love that goes into its creation.

4. How do you choose the materials for your garments, and what criteria do you use to align them with your brand's values?

Material selection is paramount in my design process. I prioritize sourcing the finest fabrics, primarily from Italy for wools and cashmeres, and from Korea for silks. My cottons are sourced from the UK. I maintain close relationships with my suppliers to guarantee the quality of both the materials and the working conditions in which they are produced. I personally assess every component, from interfacing to buttons, understanding that even the smallest details can make a significant impact on the final garment.

5. In what ways does your focus on bespoke menswear inform your designs for modern women?

The bespoke approach emphasizes the importance of every detail, including the garment's interior. In ready-to-wear, this focus is often neglected, but I strive to incorporate that bespoke sensibility. Each tailored piece features genuine French facing interiors and the option for personalized embroidery, ensuring a unique touch that elevates the overall experience. This attention to detail not only enhances the garment's aesthetic but also offers a nod to the craftsmanship of bespoke tailoring.
